History of the Cult of Abraxas

The cult of Abraxas was founded by the necromancer Lixes who was the first human to ever come into contact with Abraxas, the Viridian Horror, a mystical demon of unlimited power. His followers grew more numerous year after year, and Lixes was at the head of thousands of cultists when Abraxas appeared to another priest, making him the new leader of the sect. Lixes disappeared shortly after that - swearing to come back stronger than before and reclaim his throne - but was never seen again.

Throughout generations, successive leaders of the cult were all demoted after short intervals as Abraxas was dissatisfied with their lack of ardour. There is no apparent reason for these changes, but the will of Abraxas is always respected. Some of the expelled leaders tried to hang on to their power and were eventually killed by other cultists, making exile the most likely fate for the rest of them. The current leaders of activities of the Temple of Abraxas are unknown, with some sources claiming the cult is planning an intrusion in Aleroth itself.
