Icon of Pyrokinetic combat ability in Divinity: Original Sin II

Pyrokinetic is a combat ability, utilising magic known as pyrokinesis and essential for memorising and casting pyrokinetic spells in Divinity: Original Sin II.

Description[]

Characteristics[]

Pyrokinetic combat ability focuses on dealing fire damage, which is resisted by Magic Armour Icon (Original Sin 2) Magic Armour and Fire Resistance Icon (Original Sin 2) Fire Resistance. Magic Armour prevents negative status effects from affecting characters whereas Fire Resistance directly lowers fire damage done. The reduction is based on percentage, therefore character with + 10 % fire resistance will receive 10 % less fire damage.

Pyrokinetic on its own offers 4 support spells, 1 summoning spell and 10 offensive spells. Craftable spells that include pyrokinetic offer 5 support (2 are incarnate infusions) and 7 offensive spells. Overall Pyrokinetic offers 9 support spells, 17 offensive spells and 1 summon spell.

Most notable support spells are Haste and Peace of Mind since these provide some of the most useful status effects and boons.

Pyrokinetic ability on its own increases fire damage from all source by 5 % per each point invested. Note that in order to learn all Pyrokinetic spells, the character needs 5 points in Pyrokinetic (either by investment or by bonuses from items).

Fire Damage increase per point in Pyrokinetic
Level Damage Boost (%) Level Damage Boost (%)
1 5 2 10
3 15 4 20
5 25 6 30
7 35 8 40
9 45 10 50

Damage of Pyrokinetic Spells[]

Damage in Divinity: Original Sin II is calculated through this exact formula: Damage = (Base Damage) x (1 + Elemental Bonus%) x (1 + Attribute Bonus% + Weapon Skill Bonus% + Misc Bonuses% [if attack]) x (1 + High Ground Bonus% + Crit Bonus%) x ( 1 + Misc Bonus% [if spell])

Due to skills under Pyrokinetic ability being spells they all use the following formula for damage: (Base Damage) x (1 + Elemental Bonus%) x (1 + Attribute Bonus% + Weapon Skill Bonus %) x (1 + High Ground Bonus% + Crit Bonus%) x ( 1 + Misc Bonus %)

Simply put for the fire damage done by Pyrokinetic spells the most crucial elements are: level of the caster, pyrokinetic ability, intelligence attribute, high ground bonus and critical hit bonus.

Pyrokinetic spells DO NOT rely on the base damage done by weapons. However weapons affect damage done if they provide boost to any of the above mentioned elements that affect fire damage done.

Therefore in order to boost damage done by Pyrokinetic spells it is crucial to increase: Level, Pyrokinetic, Intelligence, High Ground Bonus, Critical Hit Bonus. If possible it is wise to lower the fire resistance of enemies. Note that bonus to damage provided by Intelligence is smaller than bonus provided by Pyrokinetic ability.

Surfaces and Status Effects[]

Pyrokinetic ability is focuses on mastering fire. Therefore those who use it are most commonly capable of creating fire surfaces, which can be further enhanced into cursed fire and holy fire surfaces. Fire surfaces can be easily created from oil and poison surfaces which are flammable (and explosive) as well as web surface (which can be negated only by fire).

Pyrokinetic spells are also capable of causing a variety of status effects. Below is a table listing all effects caused by Pyrokinetic combat ability spells.

Table of status effects caused by Pyrokinetic spells

Spell Tiers[]

Following tables and sub-sections show pyrokinetic spells that can be learnt by character if they have enough point in Pyrokinetic ability. All of these spells can be crafted by combining corresponding scroll with blank fire skillbook or high tier blank fire skillbook. Note that not all spells have craftable scrolls. In base game (without cheats) spells from 9 level onward (Adept, Expert and Master tiers) can be gained only after escaping Reaper's Eye island.

Each spell belongs to a tier that is determined through characters level that determines whether it can be found and purchased and requires certain level in Pyrokinetic ability in order to memorise the spell. Higher Tier spells may require more memory in order to use them in combat, this especially applies to spells that require Source in order to cast them.
