Living on the world of Rivellon are multiple species of sentinent creatures, known as races.

The Races of Rivellon[]

The "seven races"[]

The "seven races", those created in the image of the Seven Gods (Eternals who siezed control over Source) are considered to be the superior species of the world. Each race has a deity and a place on the Council of Seven. Even within this group, humans, elves and dwarves are considered the most "cultured" with arts, commerce and diplomacy as part of their repertoire. Lizards follow close by, however, they have a more nefarious reputation; as thieves and scoundrels. Even so, they also maintain a high level of culture, including diplomatic relations; with an embassy located at Arx. [1]

Orcs, although a warlike race are considered the brethren of the other races of equal measure. Less culturally developed, they are known on occasion to interact and negotiate with the other races.

Wizards, although strictly speaking not a race of their own (as their ranks hail from that of the other races) are considered the sixth of the seven races. [2] Imps, although one of the seven god races, are seen as an inferior race and have not always been accepted by the other cultures due to their past associations to demons, as their slaves. [3] Depending on the time period, their place on the council was actually held instead by the undead. [4]

The Ancient Ones[]

The seven races are not the only intelligent race that occupies Rivellon. One of the intelligent races, though not part of the Council of Seven itself, are dragons, also called Ancients or the Ancient Ones. They are ancient race, older than humans and possibly elves as well and are generally rumoured to have created Rivellon and contributed to the development of the aforementioned seven races. [5] They are the children of dragon god Ouroboros. [6]

Other Races[]

Outside of the seven races, demons and dragons Rivellon is also populated by other races including but not limited to:

Races Outside Rivellon[]

Rivellon is not the only world that exists within Divinity series. There is a plethora of dimensions, half-worlds and worlds that are populated by different or similar species with different cultures and practices. An example of these are the Raanaar and the Imps who reside on the world of Nemesis. [7] A dimension that unfortunately borders that of Tartarus the dimension in which they and their god Lord of Chaos are imprisoned by the Seven Gods. [8] Another example of a world with similar species but completely different practices (especially in regards to magic) is that of humans residing on Earth. [9]
