Adept Ralph is the apprentice of Ruben Ferol and successor as the leader of the wizards in 611 AD.

Background[]

Ralph, also known as Blunderfoot by his childhood friend Duke Morreck Ferol, was the apprentice to Ruben Ferol, a battlemage and the leader of the wizard race who fought by his masters side in the second assault by the Legion of the Damned upon the League of Seven. During the final battle, Ralph was part of the trapped laid to defeat Ulthring and the Lord of Chaos, hiding in position behind a cloak of invisibility. As the trap was sprung, Ralph came from behind his cloak and fired an arrow into Ulthring's eye, piercing through his helmet into the socket, sending the archmage to the ground writhing in pain.

As the battle met its bloody end, with the defeat of Chaos, the Legion fleeing and the leaders of League dead in their final battle with Chaos itself, Ralph found Ulthring to still be alive. Taking the Sword of Lies into his grasp, Ralph pierced it through the archmages throat. The sword however, contained a piece of Chaos' soul within it. Initially the sword attempted to bargain with Ralph, who refused its offerings; from here it took to assaulting his mind, breaking his mental defences piece by piece. Ralph retained the sword in the knowledge that if an individual with a weaker mind were to find the sword in their possession, they would be consumed by it, allowing Chaos to return to Rivellon once again.

Rather than allow this to happen, Ralph confined himself to Stormfist Castle, gradually growing more gaunt and pale as Chaos continued its assault on his mind. His servants, concerned for his well being contacted Morreck to visit him. On Morreck's arrival he discovered Ralph sat meditatively on the floor, sword in his lap; Ralph was initially unresponsive until Morreck called him by his childhood name. Drawing his remaining strength Ralph explained the situation and his plan to prevent Chaos from returning: by sealing himself and the sword behind a one way portal in the basement of the castle.

Upon reaching the door and proceeding towards it, Ralph's mental will finally gave out and the Lord of Chaos rose. Morreck pushed what now the physical form of Ralph and the mind of Chaos to the door and trapped them within the confines of the castle's walls.
