Silent monks are former Sourcerers who have been drained of their Source by the Magisters of the Divine Order.

Background[]

The majority of silent monks were those who have been identified as Sourcerers, who were then collared and sent to the island prison Fort Joy on Reapers' Eye by the Divine Order. Although the pretext of this was to keep the world safe from the voidwoken, the reality was that they were purged of their Source energy and condemned to be thralls of the Magisters that purged them. This, however, is happening outside of the knowledge and approval of the Paladins (oldest faction within the Divine Order), who sent Cork to Fort Joy to investigate their suspicions. [1]

Stripped of their freedom and self thought, silent monks are barely alive, with only their physical characteristics to reflect who they were. They do still retain the skills they had prior to the purge--humans are physically strong, elves are magically imbued etc.
